Teaching!

After getting up at the crazy hour of 5am (it's dark and cold at that time!!), leaving the house at 6 and getting the train at 7, I finally arrived in accrington for the first day of my paid work experience teaching kind of thing (don't really know what to call it but that kind of thing! basically I get paid to go into a school for a week and see if I like the idea of teaching!) It has been a great day, very interesting and I've learnt a lot about how not to teach! (as well as how to!) I'm working with one of the french teachers, who is neither french nor english, I have no idea where she's from but she pronounces all her w's as v's (and visit as 'wisit'!) and has the weirdist french accent ever! I had to stop myself from correcting her loads of times, these poor kids are gonna end up speaking french so badly! She doesn't seem to be able to handle the classes at all and doesn't make it in any way fun so no wonder I heard loads of the kids saying "I hate french, why can't we just say it in english?!" I really want to give her ideas of how to make it more interesting for them, but can't really! On the plus side she does give people chocolate if they're good! After school we had to stay for a staff meeting to see what other things teachers have to do, it was the most boring thing ever!!! I very nearly fell asleep, the only interesting bit was when they played a clip of little britain! But other than that it was just loads of ramble about classrooms looking nice, awards for the best looking classroom, marking schemes, review days, uniform and I can't remember what else!
It shall certainly be a very interesting week, and hopefully lots of fun! I met cool people who are also there from uni doing the same scheme, and I have lifts in for the rest of the week so don't have to get up crazily early to catch the train! yay!
