Today one of my lecturers called me Maria when trying to remember my name, when I told him it was actually Marie he started going on about it being Maria in latin then said "there you go, we've just latinized you"!!! I was quite scared!
I also got to watch a video about the history of Barbie in french today! Apparently she was based on another doll called Lilli who was originally a cartoon character in a German newspaper and chased after rich men!! Oral classes are so educational!

It's true!! Although you're right Barbie and Ken were named after the kids of the makers, don't know about the tormented bit though.
